Let's Talk About Canada
Alright everyone. Unit 2 is starting today and that means that the open season on current events has come to a close. From now on, all current events must be about Canada. Remember, opportunities for extra credit are available dependent upon the quality and professionalism of your post. In order to earn an extra credit point, you must provide the following information when posting:
1. The title of the article
2. The name of the newspaper, magazine, internet site, etc.
where you found the article
3. Identify the country and continent where the current event
happened
4. Include a 2 or 3 sentence description of what the article was about
Here is an example of an appropriate post.

On Wednesday, August 11, a man robbed a Susquehanna Bank in Ephrata, Lancaster County. The robbery took place around 10:30 am and the robber was able to escape. According to police, the robber was described as a white male, wearing sunglasses, a hat, a white t-shirt and shorts.

A Montreal man has been ordered by authorities to pay Facebook $1 billion after alledgedly covering its members' online walls with a variety of messages including penisenlargement ads. The Superior Court says that Adam Guerbuez owed the money for flooding Facebook pages with more than 4 MILLION messages. Some people call this the largest penalty, by far, in Canadian history.

The premier of Saskatchewan publicly questioned Monday whether a foreign takeover of Canada's Potash of Saskatchewan is good for his province or Canada.it launched a hostile $130-per-share takeover bid last month after Potash directors rejected its offer.Potash Corp is the world's largest fertilizer company and one of the Saskatchewan's largest revenue-generating companies. The provincial government collects royalties from the resource.

The Nova Scotia Police Review Board has been informed of gun mishaps, illegal drug use, and inapropriate behavior among a few Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers whose former commander is now Nova Scotia's Justice Manger. This incident is being investigated and the hearing is in 2 weeks.

Netflix entered Canada with streaming service. They said it was their
first ever time expanding out of the U.S.A. It is currently in English, but will eventually be available in French. Netflix prices rose $7.04 to $154.24 in Wednesday's afternoon trading. Earlier it hit a 52-week peak of $156.67.

A plane named Snow Bird flew by human power. It had a wingspan of 34 meters and the wings actually flap so it can fly. It flew for 19 seconds. The plane weighs 94 pounds.A similar design was drawn by Leonardo DaVinci many years ago .Truly this is a feat of engineering!!!!!

The Global Geoparks Network added 11 new sites to their group of places that have scientific importance. One of the new places is Stonehammer in New Brunswick. Stonehammer is where geological research started in Canada and the local economy depends on the geology for many things.

Google has collected complete e-mail addresses, telephone, residential addresses, and health details. Google has erased the information and is awaiting further charges.

Canada is finally getting Visa debit cards. Canadians will be able to use the cards internationally wherever Visa cards are accepted and for online purchases. Canada is one of the last countries to get them.
