Haiti should learn on Tuesday who has made it through to a presidential run-off as officials publish first round election results expected to show no outright winner.Almost a year after a devastating earthquake drew the world's attention to the desperately poor Caribbean nation, Haitians are anxious to know who will succeed President Rene Preval and set about tackling a plethora of problems.
Many fear the results of the November 28 presidential and legislative elections could be rigged in favor of the ruling INITE (UNITY) party and Preval's chosen candidate Jude Celestin. If, despite his poor showing in pre-election polls, Celestin makes it through to the next round, observers fear violent protests and widespread political unrest.
