Africa

We are now moving on to Africa so all current events must be about Africa. Remember, opportunities for extra credit are available dependent upon the quality and professionalism of your post. In order to earn an extra credit point, you must provide the following information when posting:

1. The title of the article

2. The name of the newspaper, magazine, internet site, etc.
where you found the article
3. Identify the country and continent where the current event
happened
4. Include a 2 or 3 sentence description of what the article was about

Here is an example of an appropriate post.

On Wednesday, August 11, a man robbed a Susquehanna Bank in Ephrata, Lancaster County. The robbery took place around 10:30 am and the robber was able to escape. According to police, the robber was described as a white male, wearing sunglasses, a hat, a white t-shirt and shorts.

  5. Niger opposition leader Issoufou wins election

    Niger military veteran, Mahamadou Issoufou,ran for prime minister of Niger, and he won. He had run for prime minister 4 times before, but to no avail, but you know what they say, 5th time's the charm! The democratic candidate didn't win by a landslide though, he took only 51.56% of the votes, but it was enough for him to pull in a win.

    Egypt's ruling military council recently made it legal to start your own political party. As of Saturday, March 12, 2011, you are free to start your own political party, as long as you notify the authorities. Before this law was lifted, they apply to a committee dominated by the ruling party.

    Allied forces recently bombed Libya to prevent troops from reaching and taking control of rebel cities. Libyan tanks were heard falling back after the airstrikes. So far Moammar Gadhafi has not stepped down from leadership.

  8. NATO may soon take command of Libya operation

    Today, a NATO official said that they closed an agreement on having the alliance take command and control over the military mission in Libya. Although, representatives from member countries were still saying when the operation should start, and how the hand-over from the U.S command would be completed. The NATO official said on condition of anonymity in keeping with NATO regulations.

    An imprint of a circle in the DRC has been confirmed as the first meteor to hit Central Africa. Including this meteor, there have been a total of 182 known meteors that have hit Earth. This historic meteor is known as the "Luizi" crater.
